Pittsburg State University hosted its Eighteenth Annual Young
Authors' Conference on March 31st. Thirty-two area schools attended
the conference, totaling over 500 young authors present.
Among these 500 impressive young writers, were Neosho
Heights' fifteen!
Students were asked to write and illustrate stories from any genre to be judged by a panel of staff members. After meeting specific criteria, students from grades 1st-5th were chosen to represent our school.
With much thanks to PTO, our authors were given the opportunity
to dine-out with their peers and then meet award-winning author,
Kimberly Willis Holt, and prolific illustrator, Chris Soentpiet.
After meeting with the guest speakers, the students were given the
chance to visit and share their literary works with other
exceptional young authors from the surrounding area. The
conference concluded with a closing ceremony in which students were
honored with an award certificate and an autographed book.
The students really enjoyed sharing their stories, meeting new faces, and gaining new information to help them grow as young writers!
