School Spirit busting at the seams!

Our Oswego High School home-town heroes ventured across town for a short visit with Neosho Heights upper elementary students on Friday, September 21st. School spirit was busting at the seams as a line of fidgety 3-5th graders greeted the 2007-08 football players and cheerleaders. The youngsters anxiously waited their turn in line for each Indian athletes autograph.
The enthusiasm of the USD 504 youth rang through out the cafeteria as one OHS football player was heard saying to a fifth grader, “You know, now that I've touched your shirt.. It will be worth something someday!” PRIDE… “the happy, satisfied feeling somebody experiences when having or achieving something special that other people admire!”
Indian pride was at a peak for both young and old alike during this special autograph signing session. The upper elementary teachers were bewildered at the growth of the current OHS athletes as it was only yesterday that they too were sitting in the tiny blue chairs that our current Ne-Hi students occupy.
The word, “spirit”, is defined as “a sense of enthusiasm and loyalty that somebody feels through belonging to a group.” The spirit of a school begins in the community, which surrounds it and gives it life; spirit begins in the attitudes of the people whose children populate the school. Spirit is linked to purpose and purpose is linked to will!
