Senior Scholarship List #1

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP LIST -- #1     SEPTEMBER, 2007

 

1.  Brown University, Columbia University, the University of Chicago and Cornell University will be having an informational evening for high school seniors and their parents in Wichita on Tuesday, October 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Wichita Marriott.  If you are interested in attending any of these schools, RSVP at www.exploringeducationalexcellence.org

 

2.  See the attached letter from Wichita Technical Institute explaining their programs.

 

3.  Priority scholarship deadline for Fort Hays State University is December 12.  Final deadline is February 12.  www.fhsu.edu/finain   Applications must be submitted online.

 

4.  The Veterans of Foreign Wars Endowment Scholarship is for students who's parent or grandparent is actively affiliated with a VFW Post in the state of Kansas, or was so at the time of his/her death.  Application must be turned in to the Post by January 15.  The scholarship is for one $500-$2,000 for 1 to 4 years.  See Mrs. Johnson for an application.

 

5.  Wichita State University is having their Senior Day on Friday, September 21 from 9:00-1:00.  To reserve a spot go to www.admissions,wichita.edu and click on "RSVP for an event."  Cost is $10, "walk-ins" will not be accepted.  You will receive program materials and a Shocker T-shirt.  There will be a drawing for a $1,000 scholarship.

 

6.  Pitt State Senior Day is Saturday, September 29.  Registration must be returned by Sept. 24.  There is a $10 registration fee and $5 per parent/guest.  See the back bulletin board for a registration card.

 

7.  Pitt State's Rumble in the Jungle Senior Saturday is November 10.  Registration deadline is November 5.  See bulletin board for registration cards.  Fee is $10 and $5 for each parent/guest.

 

8.  Missouri Southern State University's Criminal Justice Administration Department is having an Open House on Tuesday, September 25 from 10:00 - 1:00 to showcase their Criminal Justice and Pre-Law programs and the Crime Scene Investigation minor.  RSVP by calling 417-625-9302 OR email:  GALBRAITH-S@mssu.edu

 

9.  K-State's early priority date for the premier scholarships is October 30.  You must be admitted to the university before that date.  Also, January 30 is the selective admission deadline for programs that include Architecture, Planning and Design and interior design in the College of Human Ecology.

 

10.  University of Kansas encourages students to apply for admissions and scholarships early.  October 30 is the early scholarship deadline (I would have it done by October 1st!) for freshmen.  If a student submits a complete admission and scholarship application by October 30, and if the student has a 3.25 GPA and a 26 ACT, the student will be guaranteed a minimum $1,000 nonrenewable scholarship offer.  The FINAL scholarship deadline (if they haven't run out of money) is November 30.

 

11.  KU has different Senior Day programs and you can view these dates, get more information and register online at www.admissions.ku.edu/seniordays  There is a registration fee of $15 per person.  Also, see bulletin board in back hallway.

 

12.  If you are interested in the University of Arkansas, go to www.admission.uark.edu to apply and www.scholarships.uark.edu to apply for scholarships.  The priority date for admission and scholarships is November 12 with a final scholarship deadline of January 30.  You can get an in-state scholarship is you have a 3.5 or higher GPA and an ACT score of 25 or higher.  It is renewable for 4 years, plus you can qualify for many other scholarships.

 

13.  See the bulletin board for the different classes offered by North Central Kansas Technical College such as GIS/GPS Technology, Electronic Technology, Bricklaying, Cabinetmaking, Culinary Arts, Diesel Technology and Telecommunications/Networking. 

 

14.  Cappex.com, a website that tell you which colleges want you before you apply, is giving away $25.000 in scholarships.  Log on to www.cappex.com/scholarships to apply.  See the bulletin board for a list of scholarships.

 

15.  The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards is a program to recognize youth volunteerism.  You an apply online at www.prudential.com/spirit  or   www.principals.org/prudential.  Print out your completed application and give to Mr. Wittmer by October 25.  The school will selected the most deserving applicants and recognize them as role models.  The top application will be sent for state-level judging.  This student will receive the President's Volunteer Service Award is he/she has contributed the minimum number of volunteer hours to qualify, and be eligible for statewide recognition.  Further,  this student may win an unrestricted award of $1,000 and a trip to Washington. D.C.

 

16.  Kansas Wesleyan University is having Senior Days on Saturday, September 29, Saturday, November 10 and Friday February 15.  See the poster on the bulletin board.

 

17.  The K-State Civic Leadership Scholarship competition is designed to recognize youth with an outstanding record of community service and civic leadership.  See the bulletin board for a brochure, or Mrs. Johnson, or go online at www.k-state.edu/nsss/civicleadership  Deadline to submit application materials is December 10.

 

18.  On-campus events for K-State are listed on the poster on the bulletin board, by the Southeast Kansas Senior Day is Monday, November 19.  Watch for upcoming special events in our area, including pizza parties, parent and student info sessions, and more.

 

19.  Wichita State University has four Invitational Scholarship Competitions:  Barton School of Business for $44,000, Wallace Engineering for $15,000, DSI Leadership and Academic Performance from $2000-48,000, and Music for $14,000.  To be considered for an invitation, you must be fully admitted to WSU with an ACT score and official high school transcript on file BEFORE October 1, have a 3.5 or higher GPA and a minimum ACT composite score of 24.  Apply on line today!

 

20.  If you are interested in attending an Armed Services Academy next year, see Mrs. Johnson for a Service Academy Nomination Application Packet.  It is lengthy, so you need to get on it asap.  Deadline is October 25.

 

21.  Some colleges and universities require you to complete The Common Application.  It is now available at www.commonapp.org  The school you are interested in will list on its website if The Common Application is required.

 

22.  PSU's Academic Achievement Awards are based on your GPA and ACT score.  The amount  awarded for the first year is divided for two semesters, and if you keep a 3.2 GPA your first year at PSU with a minimum of 24 credit hours for the year, you will be renewed for an additional two semesters.

In addition to the Academic Achievement Award, valedictorians are eligible to receive a $1000 award divided over the first two semesters of attendance.  It is not renewable.

 

23. Washington University in St., Louis has the William H. and Elizabeth G. Danforth Scholars Program.  They are looking for students who have exhibited a capacity for service and leadership as well as academic excellence, and who will embrace the challenges of a rigorous academic curriculum.  If interested, see Mrs. Johnson.
