Senior Scholarship List #2

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP LIST #2         OCTOBER, 2007

 

1.  KSU - important dates to remember:  Apply for admission at www.k-state.edu/admit on line during September and October-no later than the end of September; set up a senior day; apply for scholarships BEFORE November 1 at www.k-state.edu/sfa.  See the list on the bulletin board of in-state scholarships.

 

2.  Visit dates to Tabor College, a Christian school, are October 7-8, November 11-12, and February 17-18.  Call 1-800-TABOR-99 or complete the campus visit form on the admissions page at www.tabor.edu.  Reservations are accepted up to one week before the event.  You can also schedule individual visits.

 

3.  McPherson College - Jay Leno has said "I'll put a McPherson College graduate up against any other liberal arts student."  U.S. News and World Report named McPherson College as one of America's Best Colleges for two consecutive years.  Go to www.mcpherson.edu to check out their website.  Visit days are October 13, February 9 and May 3.  Presidential Scholarship Competition days are November 17 and February 16.

 

4.  Allen County Community College  has a theatre program.  For more information contact the Director of Theatre or check out their website  www.allencc.edu.  Activity scholarships are available to both theatre majors and non-majors covering tuition and book rental.  In addition, they offer work study positions for qualified students in their costume and scene shops.  They are seeking performers and stage technicians who love working in theatre.  Call to schedule an audition or interview at 620-365-5116, ext. 224.

 

5.  Baker University CAN cost less than a public university.  Ninety-five percent of Baker students receive financial aid packages covering the majority of the cost of tuition, room and board.  And, the average package for a student with need is nearly $18,000.  They are ready to provide every interested student with an estimate of the financial aid they would receive from Baker.  This estimate does not obligate you to Baker in any way.  Go to www.bakeru.edu/admissions for more information.  See the bulletin board for scholarships and awards, both academic and participation.

8.  K-State at Salina's Engineering Technology Department received a $500,000 National Science Foundation Scholarship grant to span over the next four years to provide financial assistance to eligible students pursuing careers in engineering technology.  The goal of the program is to provide tuition assistance for Kansas students for successful completion of an associate or bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology with options in construction engineering tech, web development, computer systems tech, electronic and computer engineering tech and mechanical engineering tech.  Go to www.salina.k-state.edu and click on the ELITE scholarships located in the banner.

 

9.  The AXA Achievement Scholarship offers $10,000 national scholarships to one student from each state, and $15,000 additional scholarships to 10 national recipients.  The national scholarship winners will also be offered internships at AXA offices and a laptop computer for college.  Application deadline is December 12.  To learn more go to www.axa-achievement.com and see the info on the bulletin board.

 

10.  Vocational Education Scholarship Applications are available online at www.kansasregents.org/financial_aid/awards.html  This is a scholarship competition for full-time  students who enroll in a designated one or two-year vocational program at various Kansas area technical schools/colleges, community colleges, Kansas State University-Salina and several four-year colleges and proprietary schools.  Only certificate and selected two-year degree programs are included among the designated technical programs.  Students with, or applying for, baccalaureate degrees are not eligible for funding.  To apply for the vocational scholarship, you must be a Kansas resident, a graduate from an accredited high school, plan to enroll full time in a designated vocational program in Kansas, and take this test.  It is given twice each year.  Registration and testing is processed by the Testing Center at KSU.  Approximately 240 scholarships are awarded for $500.  Go online to apply.  Test dates are November 3 and March 1.  Postmark deadlines are Oct. 1 and February 4.

 

11.  SAE Engineering Scholarship program awards scholarships ranging from $1000 to $10,000.  To qualify, the applicant must enroll in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology at a university of the applicant's choice. (go to www.abet.org for more information)  There are also university sponsored scholarships which range in value from $400 to full tuition.  Application deadline is November 28.  Go to www.sae.org/students/engschlr.htm  to apply.

 

12.  The Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Kansas is accepting applications for the John Kurtis Ostenberg Memorial Scholarship.  One scholarship will be granted to meritorious Kansas residents attending KU who have an interest in wildlife and the natural environment.  Application deadline is October 30.  See Mrs. J for an application.
