Senior Scholarship List #3

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS --  DECEMBER, 2007

 

1.  Butler Community College - Humanities/Fine Arts audition/interview dates for those who wish to be considered for departmental scholarships-be their guest on February2 or February 29 and participate in their scholarship auditions for music, theatre, dance and journalism.  Portfolio competition for scholarships in the visual arts is held only on February 29.  You do not have to major in music, theatre, dance, or mass communications in order to receive one of their activity scholarships.

 

2.  Barton County Community College sports medicine department has sports medicine scholarships for tuition and books. 

 

3.  McKelvey Foundation Entrepreneurial Scholarship awards if available to all high school seniors who have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit by owning and operating their own businesses while in high school.  You must own or operate a genuine business, non-profits are eligible and have at least one employee, even if only part time.  Complete our online application by January 15, 2008.  Up to $10,000 per academic year for 4 years is being offered.  Go to www.mckelveyfoundation.org.

 

4.  USAFunds will award up to $3.2 million in new, renewable scholarships to students demonstrating financial need, are members of an ethnic-minority group or are physically disabled.  Up to $6,000 over your undergraduate years.  Go to www.usafunds.org/sholarship between Dec. 15 and Feb. 15 to apply.

 

5.  Honors College at Pittsburg State University - application deadline is February 1.  Applications may be downloaded at www.pittstate.edu/admin/vpaa/honorscollege.html.  If you are interested, get started on the application as soon as possible.

 

6.  Coffeyville Community College has athletic training scholarships for students interested in continuing their education in a health-related field (medicine, athletic training, physical therapy, nursing).  As part of the scholarship agreement, students work in the athletic training rooms and help with everyday activities of treatment and rehabilitation of the student athletes.  The scholarship covers tuition and loan of books.  www.coffeyville.edu

 

7.  Bethany College has the Bethanian scholarship that is for full tuition.  You will compete for the scholarship Feb. 23 on campus by writing an essay and interview with faculty.  If interested, let Mrs. J know.

 

8.  The Kansas Elks Association provides the Most Valuable Student scholarships for two boys and two girls in the state of Kansas that are guaranteed $1000 a year for four years, plus awards for 38 other students with a $600 award.  Deadline is January 10.  See Mrs. J for an application - it is a very time consuming application.

 

9.   Check out the poster on the bulletin board from K-State with the spring semester dates for visits.

 

10.  Ottawa University has 5 full-tuition scholarships available.  If you are interested in competing for an Ottawa University Presidential Scholar scholarship, let Mrs. J know by January 30 to send in your name.

 

11.  If you are interested in attending a Co-op College, see the letter from the National Commission for Cooperative Education on the bulletin board.  The schools are named where you can apply for one of twenty-eight scholarships valued at $10,000.  Application deadline is Feb. 15.  Early submission is strongly encouraged

 

12.  Nelnet will award $1 million in scholarships and you could be among the lucky Grand Prize winners of up to $25,000 for a year of college expenses.  There is no essay required to enter or win. and all winners are randomly selected.  Enter by filling out the online entry form at www.nelnet.com/win.  You can enter online daily to increase your chances of winning, or your parents can do it for you.  Drawings are held monthly through August 8.

 

13.  Priority deadline for Honors Program at KU is January 15.

 

14.  The 2008 Sam Walton COMMUNITY Scholarship is available through www.walmartfoundation.org.  The deadline for entry is a postmark of January 14.  It is a non-renewable $1000 award.

 

15.  The Kansas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (KACRAO) are offering the Quality Leadership scholarships.  There are 4 $500 awards.  You must have a minimum ACT of 22 and a 3.25 or higher GPA.  Deadline is March 15.  See Mrs. J for an application or you can download one at www.kacrao.org

 

16.  KU offers the Hixson Opportunity Award to provide the opportunity for students to attend KU who would otherwise not be able to because of financial restrictions or other personal hardships.  This award is specifically designed for students who have faced significant challenges that may hinder their ability to attend college.  These awards are available to ten entering freshmen.  Apply at www.shorships.ku.edu/hixson.shtml.  Deadline is January 25.

 

17.  Burger King offers scholarship awards in the amount of $1000 each.  Applications are available online until February 15.  See bulletin board for more details.  Apply at www.bk.com/scholars

19.  The Kansas Masonic Foundation has a low-interest loan student loan program.  See Mrs. J for a brochure.

 

20.  AXA Achievement Community Scholarship will award up to $725,000 in scholarships this year to graduating high school seniors.  Go to www.axa-achievement.com to apply.

 

21.  See the attached flyer on the American Legion Scholarships.  Note the different deadlines for each scholarship.

 

22.  Southwestern College also has an athletic training program.  Go to www.sckans.edu/athletictraining and/or see the flyer on the bulletin board.
