In a first for the Oswego High School Library, the Scholastic Book Fair has arrived for the duration of high school Parent-Teacher Conferences. The book fair presents a great opportunity for students and parents to discover new reading material available by offering a large selection of quality books ranging from the middle school level to adult, with genres ranging from suspense to fantasy to nonfiction.
Even reluctant readers' interest may be sparked. Roberta Brightman, OHS Media Specialist, says reaching everyone is her goal with the book fair. "[The book fair] helps kids who never go to a bookstore to be right there to see them and gives them an opportunity to view books they might not normally read."
By buying books on display, students and parents help support their high school library. For every book sold, the library receives credit for free books to help build the library's collection. The more books the library sells, the more new books will be available to check out.
The OHS Library is also holding a drawing during the book fair called "Locker Lotto". A locker number is randomly drawn, and that student wins a free book worth five dollars or less. It's just another way the OHS Library is working to encourage students.
The Scholastic Book Fair at Oswego High School is located in the Commons Area on the stage and is open in the mornings before school and during the Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences, March 12 and 13, 5:30-8:00. Stop by and support your local high school library and the cause for excellent reading!
