Thousands of students throughout the country and in many foreign countries competed April 22nd in the 50th Knowledge Master Open academic competition. Middle school, junior high, and high school students faced their computers and 200 tough questions to vie for top scores based on the accuracy and speed of their answers.
A team of 9 students in USD 504 schools scored 1124 of 2000 possible points. They answered 158 questions correctly and ranked 33 out of 47 teams in Kansas and 525 out of 753 total participating teams.
Academic coach Kelli Hendrickson described the event as exciting and educational. The students worked together as a team and performed exceptionally well.
Students on the team included: Klayton Beasley, Kyler Beasley, Jacob Cook, Jenna Goodnight, Allen Guy, Travis Schenker, Ari Siu, Matt Wegner, and Maggie Wiggins.
The Knowledge Master Open was designed to stimulate enthusiasm for learning and recognition for academic accomplishment. The contest runs on classroom computers to allow all students the opportunity to compete in a large academic event without the expense of traveling to a central site. Contest results and example questions are available at www.greatauk.com.
