OSWEGO STUDENTS EXCEL AT STATE

April 09, 2009

Oswego's middle and high school Gen-Y students competed on April 1 in the Kansas Student Technology Leadership Digital Media Competition. Eleven students submitted projects for judging by members of the Mid-America Association for Computers in Education and other education technology specialists.

Once again, Oswego's young people brought home first through sixth place awards. Receiving first place in Video Production was seventh grader Tristen Williamson. Second place honors went to sophomore Corrie Hays and seventh grader Cody Holmes, both in Multi-Media. Sophomore Damaris Russell won third in Video Production, while sophomore Rebecca Wilson garnered fourth in Multi-Media and freshman Clint Rea won fourth in Tech Integration. Seventh graders Gus Tomlinson (Multi-Media) and Andrew Wimp (Technology Integration) were each awarded fifth place, and seventh grader Hope Vore received sixth in Technology Integration. Also competing for Oswego were freshman Brittany Anderson and Tag Oldham, seventh grade.

Gen-Y sponsor Roberta Brightman is proud of the students' accomplishments and the hard work which made them possible. "We once again proved that USD 504 is a leader in technology by placing nine of eleven students," she said.
The students' Gen-Y projects will be shown at a Parents of Oswego Middle School (POMS) meeting on April 21, 2009 at 6 p.m. at Oswego Middle School. Anyone may attend.

Gen-Y is a project-based Student Technology Leadership Program that aims to empower students to better use technology for learning. Students are selected by an application method, and then work throughout the school year on laptop computers to create projects utilizing various software and highlighting different topics.
