South Meets North

by Kim Franklin

October 10, 2009

The South (Neosho Heights) first grade journeyed North to SVCA on September 24 to find out just what their K/1 students have been up to.  We took a tour with Mr. Huff to see the greenhouse and learn about what is in there and how it works to keep the plants alive.  Then we ventured out to their garden and picked some jalapeno peppers.  Then off to the barn and to meet Dirt and Clod (the goats).  The shetland pony and the llama were not very interested in meeting us, but we tried to get their attention.  Mrs. Farris and Mrs. Franklin and their students helped us to make seed cards for us to keep.  They used recycled paper and flower seeds.  We enjoyed a delicious lunch with our new friends and then observed their baby chicks.  Mrs. Farris taught us about the butterflies that they have in their room.  She showed us how they are tagged and recorded.  We went out to pick cotton and "tried" to pull the seeds out.  It was harder than it looked.  We really enjoyed the day and made some new friends to be pen pals with.  Thank you Mr. Huff, Mrs. Farris, and Mrs. Franklin.
