Trip To Tulsa

It’s very rare that an entire school gets to take a field trip, but that’s exactly what Service Valley Charter Academy accomplished just a few days ago. I say, “accomplished” because it took a lot of work from a lot of different people to coordinate this trip. Imagine trying to plan a 6-hour round trip with 63 excited students… to put it in perspective it’s a lot like herding cats.
As a reward for doing an outstanding job on the state assessments this year we took our students to the Tulsa Aquarium. This wasn’t just a big fish bowl with a few guppies in it… this was an educational experience that very few of us get a chance to witness in “land locked” SE Kansas.
It’s nearly impossible to describe and remember everything we saw at the aquarium so I am just going to make a bulleted list of some of the AWESOME sea-life we encountered. I am sure I am going to miss something so make sure you take a look at all our pictures!
• Touch tank – students were able to actually touch live turtles and stingrays!
• Feeding – several students fed the turtles
• Catfish – Big enough to make any country boy’s (or girl’s) mouth water!
• HUGE TURTLE – Close to 200 years old and probably pushing Mr. Huff’s weight.
• Sharks – Several different species
• Shark Tunnel – You could actually walk underneath the sharks… it was almost like you were swimming with them!
On a side note – all of the Service Valley students were very well behaved and mannerly. We are very proud of all our students!
