CHILDREN OF THE CORN

The last day of school K/1 students took their last trip out to Joe Sprague’s cornfield to check the growth of the corn. The corn had only grown to about a foot tall but we knew it was only a matter of time. In April, Joe Sprague explained to K/1 students about how to prepare and plant his field in corn. K/1 students had been documenting the growth of the corn. We took pictures each time we traveled to the cornfield and made calls to Mr. Sprague to keep him appraised of our observations.
Jesse, a K/1 student made a visit to SVCA on Thursday, June 3rd. You read that correctly, not a week into summer and Jesse wanted to come back to school. Actually, I called Jesse and asked him if he could come to SVCA to help me. Jesse, his mom, his little sister and I all made the short walk to the cornfield to take another picture.
The last week of school K/1 students stood in between the rows of corn with the height of the corn measuring just above the student’s knees. On June 3rd the corn measured even with Jesse’s elbows. You can no longer see the individual rows of corn. Now the corn has blurred into a solid field of green.Keep checking back for further updates!
