It is cold outside in December. The frost is on the ground.
We are on the way to do our chores. We are going to let the goats out so they can run around the school yard.
This is Dirt and Clod our goats. Dirt and Clod are wanting out. "Bleeeeeat!" In goat talk that means "Let me OUT!"
The goats came to see what we were learning. The "kids" want in and the "kids" want out.
We shake the can of corn. The noise lets the goats know it is time to get fed.
It is time to put the goats away. We use the bucket of corn to get the goats to follow us back to the pen.
We feed the goats and change their water.
Chores are done for another day! We start again tomorrow.

Chores aren't so bad......

January 17, 2009

K/1 wanted to share some of the important lessons that we have learned. While helping with the daily chores that came along with Service Valley becoming a charter school we have learned….

• When the temperature gets below 32 degrees water freezes.
• When it is freezing outside and the wind is blowing, chickens don't even want to go outside.
• To watch where we walk and avoid the small piles on the ground.
• That even when students complain about the cold they still
get excited about doing the daily chores!!!

Each of the reading groups in K/1 will be writing a book about the chores we have done. The books will be written and photographed by the students. The first book “Caring for the Goats” was written by Cienna, Kainen & Grace.

Keep checking back for the next book written in the series.
