The first day of school K/1 went on a scavenger hunt to help to
familiarize the new students with the school grounds. The students
were given clues to objects hidden around the school. The first
clue lead the students to the green house where they found visors
to help protect them from the sun.
The students then explored the barn where they found glow in the
dark straws, the chicken coop where they found eggs, and the goat
pen where they found stickers.
In the office they were given a sticky note, and in the computer
lab they were given a pencil.
Clues took students to the different gardens to help them identify
the following plants: popcorn, cotton, watermelon, green beans,
belle peppers, a red tomato and a green tomato.
After we picked a samples of our produce, we took it to Mr. Huff (Lead Farmer) to receive payment for our labor. The students were paid with "Duck Bills"!
The students also visited the other classrooms and worked on introducing themselves to each adult. The adults gave each student a business card with their name and picture. The cards were put in a book that the students took home to help them become acquainted with the staff at Service Valley.
At the end of our day we enjoyed …. Well some of us enjoyed….. eating the fried green tomatoes.!
All in all a good start to the new school year!
