Up Hill Both Ways

We have all heard stories that our grandparents have told about when they were young. Stories like we had to walk to school in all kinds of weather and of course it was up hill both ways.
Well they have nothing on our students at SVCA.
Three K/1 students put on coveralls, boots, gloves, and hats in preparation for facing the frigid temperatures. Fifteen minutes later we were ready to battle the wind, cold temperatures and the drifts of snow to do our daily chores of caring for the chickens.
Our most formidable opponent was the amount of snow that old man winter dropped on us over the last couple of days. Now picture K/1 students with an average height of just under 4 feet tall walking through snow that is 3 feet tall. You know how it feels to walk through sand…. Imagine walking through sand dressed in layers of winter clothes. The kids had on so many they could barely move.
The chores that normally take us 15 minutes took us close to an hour to complete. Granted that our total time for doing chores included getting dressed and of course having a snowball fight on the way back, but now we have a story to compare to the one our grandparents tell.
Ok…..ok…. they actually found the tallest snow drift and made their way through it but it made for a good story!
