A Much Needed Thank You

K.A.Y. Club Cares

by Jordan McBrien (OHS)

January 20, 2012

Oswego High School has one of the finest K.A.Y club chapters around. The club’s supervisor is Mrs. Kerri Matson. She has been the supervisor at OHS for three years now. This club is extremely active. The OHS students and staff would like to thank all the members of the club for their hard work and contributions. They not only are selfless, but they also work extremely hard to help in every way possible. The students and staff appreciate everything that the club does and look forward to what may come in the future.

Just this year, K.A.Y. Club has done the following activities: put goodie bags in the freshmen lockers for the first day of school, decorated pumpkins for elderly citizens, put on a Halloween dance at the high school to raise can goods, made Thanksgiving food baskets with the canned goods from the dance, held a winter clothing drive to send to the families in Joplin that needed winter clothes, sold candy grams to the students at OHS to raise money for Toys for Tots, and collected presents for children in community. The officers of the club also attended a leadership conference at LCHS.

K.A.Y. Club recently celebrated Citizenship Week. During this week, they contributed in some way in the following aspects: the school, the community, the nation, the world, and the club itself. For the school, the club made mini-stockings filled with candy, wet wipes, and hand sanitizer for all of the teachers for Christmas at OHS. To contribute to the community, the chapter handed out candy canes at the Christmas parade. As for the nation, the club held a blood drive at the high school. Some of the students even did an online quiz to help feed people around the world called freerice.com. Finally, the club was released ten minutes early for lunch on a Monday to show appreciation for all they do. Once again, a great thanks is due to the club members and sponsor for everything they do.
