It has been a privilege to serve the Oswego-Service Valley USD 504 School District the past 7 years as superintendent of schools. As our schools continue to excel, the administrative team and board of education continue to look to the future with positive changes by developing relationships and providing the necessary curriculum and technology that will maximize our ability to educate all students.
My heart is full as I write to you for the final time as the Oswego USD 504 superintendent. I head into retirement with pride and satisfaction after 38 years in Kansas public education. Each May I see the joy of our graduating senior students and their loved ones when they receive their diplomas. It is a success story thanks to our combined efforts, and it takes a Pre-K through 12 team to make it happen.
To our teachers & counselor: Thank you for the hard work, late nights, and extreme care you exhibit each day to educate our students and to help them grow and develop.
To our building administrators: Thank you for your tireless work to provide our students and staff with the relationships, programs, and the environment to prosper.
To our paraprofessionals and support staff: You are the unsung heroes, but make no mistake; we know how hard you work, how much you care, and how lucky we are to have you.
To our bus drivers, food service staff, custodial/maintenance crews, and technology department: Thank you! The best instruction in the world means nothing if students can’t get to school safely, get the nutritional fuel they need for success, and learn in a safe comfortable cutting-edge surroundings.
To our students: Thank you for what you have taught me over the years. Thanks to each of you to allow me to be a part of your journey. I could not be more proud.
To our families: Thank you for entrusting us with your children and for being our daily partners in giving them the tools to unlock new worlds.
To our school board: Thank you for your vision and counsel. Oswego USD 504 Public Schools has been built on a foundation of excellence; the stronger, broader foundation that has been built will enable Oswego USD 504 to build even higher. BELIEVE – ACHIEVE – SUCCEED!
As of July 1, Mr. Mitchell Shaw will take over as the new superintendent. I’ve truly enjoyed getting to know Mr. Shaw over these past few months. Not only does he have outstanding credentials, but his caring nature and good heart are evident, and that is fundamental to the work that we do. We are not a business, but a human endeavor, and he gets that. I am happy for our students, staff, and families that our school board has made such an excellent choice.
The future of Oswego USD 504 looks brighter than ever, and with the deepest gratitude and warm regards, THANK YOU for the opportunity. It’s great to be an Oswego Indian!
Sincerely, Douglas Beisel - Superintendent of Schools
