At approximately 1:00 pm this afternoon, April 22, the fire alarm at Oswego Junior-Senior High School sounded due to some maintenance work on the HVAC system. The alarm activated from the presence of smoke produced during the maintenance work. No fire was present, nor was also anyone injured. USD 504 conducts multiple drills throughout the school year for readiness in the event of fire, tornado, or crisis. All systems are back to their normal operational status.

There were two items regarding COVID-19 procedures at USD 504 that were voted on and approved by the school board at the regular April meeting held on Monday, April 12th.
First, the BOE voted unanimously (6-0) to approve the modified quarantine effective immediately. Therefore, if your child has a secondary exposure to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 and they are asymptomatic, they are allowed to remain in school & ride the bus. However, they are required to wear a mask & social distance. If they are symptomatic, they must quarantine at home & see their primary care provider for testing. The modified quarantine procedure is outlined in the flowchart in this link. https://5il.co/ri7l
After some discussion, the BOE voted (5-1) to suspend the mask mandate & temperature checks for the remainder of the school year as Labette County & KSHSAA have suspended the requirement. The suspension of the mask mandate and temperature checks takes effect immediately. If you so choose, your child may still wear a mask as you see necessary.
For questions, please contact your child's building, where they regularly attend.
