The Oswego Archery teams traveled to Pittsburg to compete on Saturday. This will be our last tournament before the state tournament in Hutchinson on March 28. Pittsburg would only host a bullseye tournament this week. Both our elementary and middle school teams would finish in first place. Both team scores were down some from last week. Still very respectable scores though. The elementary team had 10 boys and 8 girls finish in the top 10. The middle school saw 3 boys and 7 girls shoot their way into the top 10. For high school we had 3 girls and 1 boys finish in the top ten. Finishing as individual champions were Oakley Gatton, Addison Long, Odalys Santana and Teagan Davis. Once again, this week we had several shooters shoot season/career best scores. Those archers were: High school: Chloe Rhodenbaugh 282, Brooklynn Hazell 279 and Ella Shouse 251. Middle school: Teagan Davis 281, Teazly Higgins 254 and Makayla Ekhoff 247. Elementary School: Oakley Gatton 264, Addison Long 236, Zoey Dodge 230 and Kamree Shouse 210. It was a very productive day for our archery shooters. We had a few of our higher shooters missing today because of spring break. This allowed some shooters the opportunity to step up in their absence. That is exactly what happened! I really enjoy seeing those kids step up and have successful days. They gain individual confidence that will help team success in the future. It is now time to turn our focus to the state tournament. Both the elementary and middle school teams are defending state champions. The elementary team has won 5 out of the last 6 and the middle school has won the last two. It is very important that we have very productive fun practices leading up to state. We have some really great shooters and it is going to be fun watching them prepare and improve the next two weeks. We are really looking forward to the state tournament and can’t wait for it to get here.

The Oswego Archery teams traveled to Southeast to compete today. The top 3 places in each division medaled and the top 3 teams won trophies today. We were very fortunate to bring home 21 medals and 5 trophies. Our elementary bullseye and 3D teams placed first today. The elementary team score was a very impressive 2982. That score moved us into 26th place in the United States out of between 700-800 teams. The middle school bullseye and 3D teams also placed first. Our high school 3D team rounded out the trophy haul with a second place finish. Those archers winning medals were: Ryder Collins, Oakley Gatton, Madison Spencer, Adelynn Queen, Hawke Fuller, Teagan Davis, Maicee Wimp, Odalys Santana, Xitlally Santana, Skyler Neblett, Aralynn Tun, Michael Varner, Chloe Rhondenbaugh, Bryson Royer, Owen Foster and Amelia Head. We also had several shoot their best scores. Those archers were: Jackson Gilley 3D, Xitlally Santana 3D and bullseye, Teazly Higgins 3D and bullseye, Bryson Royer 3D, Cage Miller 3D, Mikyala Ekhoff 3D, Owen Foster 3D and bullseye, Gabe Spencer 3D, River Rauniker 3D, Hawke Fuller 3D and bullseye, Maicee Wimp bullseye, Odalys Santana bullseye, Madison Spencer bullseye, Adelynn Queen bullseye, McKenna White bullseye, Holden Hoppes bullseye, Brogan Marquardt bullseye, Jaxson Cowen bullseye, Alia Heape bullseye, Khloie Rehmert bullseye and Dwain Duecy bullseye. It was an outstanding day for our archers on Saturday. It seemed like the kids were locked in from the very beginning of the day and continued as the day went on. We had an awesome week of practice leading up to the tournament. It is not a coincidence that it translated into the successful day we had today. After today, both our elementary bullseye and 3D teams are ranked in the top 100 in the United States (bullseye 26th and 3D 78). Pretty impressive accomplishment I believe and one that should be celebrated. We also have several shooters that have the top ranked scores in their division in the state. We just have some amazing kids on our archery teams. It is extremely fun to watch them shoot and grow as archers. We feel extremely fortunate that we get to coach them. Saturday, March 14 we will travel to Pittsburg for our next tournament.

The Oswego archery teams traveled to Carl Junction, Missouri for our second tournament of the year. Some of the top teams in Missouri and Oklahoma compete in this tournament. Locust Grove has the number one ranked team in the United States in both the High School and Middle School division. The Locust Grove Elementary team is ranked in the top 30 in the United States. I was extremely proud of our kids for how they performed. Top three teams in each division for bullseye and 3D won trophies. Top 10 individual bullseye and top 5 individual 3D shooters won medals. We were fortunate enough to bring home 9 medals and two trophies. The elementary bullseye and 3D teams placed second in both divisions to secure both of our trophies on the day. We were around 40 points behind Carl Junction and around 300 points behind Locust Grove going into the last few rounds. We had three boys left to shoot. Oakley Gatton, Stephan House and Owen Foster killed it on the range with their scores. They were able to propel us above Carl Junction and into second place. Locust Grove still had a 100 point lead on us for first place. Both our high school kids and middle school teams performed admirably on Saturday. We had some high scores. We just could not overcome the level of competition on this day. I know our kids will continue to work hard and our scores will be good enough by the end of the year. Individually, we brought home 9 medals. Those students securing medals were: Michael Varner bullseye, Teagan Davis bullseye, Oakley Gatton 3D and bullseye, Ryder Collins bullseye, Bryson Royer bullseye, Kenzie Rion bullseye, Madison Spencer bullseye, Jackson Gilley 3D. We had a few that missed a medal by one or two places.
Career best score on the day belong to: Oakley Gatton 3D and bullseye, Jackson Gilley 3D, Bryson Royer 3D, Makayla Ekhoff 3D, Teazly Higgins 3D and bullseye, River Rauniker 3D and bullseye, Hawke Fuller 3D and bullseye, Ember Waggoner 3D and bullseye, Owen Foster 3D, Ella Shouse 3D, Teagan Davis bullseye, Ryder Collins bullseye, Maleah Moore bullseye, Emily Wible bullseye, Stephen House bullseye, Kenzie Rion bullseye, Gunner Fountain bullseye, Cadence Campbell bullseye, Madison Spencer bullseye, Addison Long bullseye, Persephone Fuller bullseye, Holden Hoppes, Kamree Shouse, Izzabella Bradley, Zoey Dodge, Alia Heape and Malayah Queen.
I am extremely proud of our kids on how they performed on Saturday. I know they all represented our school in a great way. They were great ambassadors for our school and town. Without bragging too much, I know we have made a name for ourselves at these tournaments. Our kids have put our name on the map in this area as far as archery goes. I believe they know we have some really good shooters and they will need to perform at a high level to beat us. It isn’t all about who is winning though. We have many success stories each tournament we attend that don’t involve someone winning a trophy or medal. From first time shooters successfully finishing a tournament to veterans that shoot their career best. We have shooters that were ready to quit because they weren’t performing well. Now we are watching those same shooters bring home medals. Those are all examples of success happening without winning a medal or trophy. It is just awesome for me to watch. A great big thank you goes out to all the parents that make this happen. Some travel to the tournament after and before basketball games. I know they are running all over the country to make this happen. For that I appreciate it. I know some of them don’t like me getting them up so early to shoot in the morning rounds. I will work on that but can’t make any promises. We also have some committed and loyal coaches. Mike Dalton, Briston Kapler, Jason Higgins, Joseph Fuller and Kieth Hazell are great coaches that make all of this happen. They all do a great job and I appreciate them more than they know. Thank you for all you do. Thank you also to Carl Junction for running a great tournament and allowing us to compete on Saturday.
Elementary Bullseye
Oswego Elementary team finished in second place with 2763 points. Locust Grove elementary was first with 2893 points. Carl Junction Elementary was third with 2666 points.
Middle School Bullseye
Oswego Middle school finished in fifth place with 2991 points. Locust Grove middle school was first with 3341 points.
High School Bullseye
To compete as a team in bullseye you need 12 shooters to have a team. Oswego does not have enough to field a team for bullseye.
Elementary 3D
Elementary team score 1341 was good enough for second place on Saturday. Locust Grove Elementary was first with 1431 points. Carl Junction Elementary was third with 1330 points.
Middle School 3D
Oswego Junior High finished in 7th place with 1406 points. Locust Grove Middle school was first with 1694 points.
High School 3D
Oswego High School finished 11th place with 1515 points. Locust Grove High School was first with 1729 points
